From Friday, September 6 through Sunday, September 8, 2024, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) participated in the 2024 California Contract Cities Association (CCCA) Fall Educational Summit.
Held in Oceanside, California, this annual event serves as a platform for delivering
top-notch education and fostering networking opportunities amongst members.
As part of this year’s summit, LACoFD ODEI Section Manager, Shawna Lewis, participated as a guest speaker in a panel discussion, “You Down with DEI? Yeah, You Know Me.”, with City of Cudahy Mayor Jose Gonzalez, Water Replenishment District General Manager, Stephen Tucker, and Lakewood City Manager Thaddeus McCormack.
During the panel discussion, Mrs. Lewis showcased how progressive diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategies significantly benefit, both, the LACoFD and the communities in Los Angeles County. Her passion and authenticity left a lasting impact on the audience, underscoring the importance of embracing DEI initiatives.
The LACoFD expresses its gratitude to Mrs. Lewis along with ODEI Assistant Fire Chief Alvin Brewer and the entire ODEI team for their commitment to an inclusive environment and their role in shaping a diverse and equitable future for Department team members.
