Recognizing commitment, hard work, and steadfast leadership, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) proudly congratulates Travon T. Espy and Jason B. Ghorbani on their promotions to assistant fire chief on March 13, 2025.
This significant milestone in their career’s spotlights not only their emergency operations expertise but also their ability to lead effectively, ensuring the safety and well-being of their team and the communities they serve.
ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF TRAVON T. ESPY
Assistant Fire Chief Travon T. Espy, assigned to Division VI, has devoted over 27 years to the LACoFD. Chief Espy brings a wealth of knowledge in strategic planning acquired as he advanced through the ranks and his dedication to training the next generation of firefighters. Teamwork and safety are at the forefront of his leadership.
“I am honored by this promotion to Assistant Fire Chief, as it allows me to serve those who serve our community. Leadership in this role is not about authority; it’s about support. My goal is to ensure that every fire captain, firefighter specialist, and firefighter has the resources and backing they need to perform at their best,” said Chief Espy. “The success of the Department is built on the strength and dedication of the team, and it’s my responsibility to empower them to deliver five-star service to the community.”

Assistant Fire Chief Jason B. Ghorbani is a true advocate for fire safety, mentorship, and community engagement, Chief Ghorbani has had a distinguished career, spanning many years with the LACoFD having started as a student worker 33 years ago. His leadership style emphasizes clear communication, which helps foster a culture of trust within his team.
“The assistant fire chief serves as the Fire Chief’s representative to local cities and councils, requiring extensive preparation, awareness, and responsibility. At the operational level, the assistant fire chief ensures the daily execution of the Department’s mission. In this capacity, I am committed to being present, accessible, and actively engaged with our dedicated personnel as they provide essential care, support, and life-saving services each day,” said Chief Ghorbani.
