On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department joined the Los Bomberos de L.A. County to visit with students at St. Aloysius Gonzaga School for their end-of-school literacy and community celebration.

The visit coincided with Gordon Philanthropies celebrating the distribution of its one-millionth book at St. Aloysius School, bringing together students, educators, firefighters, community leaders, and media partners – like FOX 11 reporter Star Harvey – for a literacy celebration that also included a $5,000 donation to support student programs and the introduction of a new initiative aimed at helping schools meet the basic needs of children.

“Reaching one million books distributed is an incredible milestone, but what matters most is the impact those books have on children and families,” said Sylvia Beanes, Executive Director of Gordon Philanthropies.

LACoFD personnel and Los Bomberos members read with students, answered questions about careers in the fire service, and shared personal stories about perseverance, public service, and the importance of education.

The LACoFD extends its gratitude to every association and community partner helping our youth succeed!
