The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) joined with the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the “Steel Across America,” a coast-to-coast tour carrying a steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center’s South Tower to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

The Steel Across America tour is a nationwide event by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation commemorating the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Steel Across America officially launched on Saturday, May 2, 2026, near Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan. The 16,000-pound, 21-foot steel column will travel across more than 10,500 miles, making more than 35 stops in 21 states and Washington, D.C., visiting landmark locations, community gathering places, town squares, and major sporting events nationwide before culminating in its return to Ground Zero on September 11 on the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

This interactive exhibit offers the public an opportunity to engage with the sacred beam, paying tribute to our first responders and our respects to all those who lost their lives.
