Summer Junior Lifeguard Program

Summer Junior Lifeguard Program

Summer Junior Lifeguard Program 1024 683 Isidro Armenta

On Friday, August 7, 2026, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division officially concluded its annual Junior Lifeguard Program summer sessions. Spanning two intensive four-week sessions, this summer program inspired and challenged more than 3,900 youth participants across multiple Los Angeles County beach locations.

Led by current LACoFD lifeguards, the program provides comprehensive mentorship and hands-on instruction in ocean safety, physical conditioning, basic first aid, and environmental awareness. Open to youth ages 9 to 17, applicants must first pass a rigorous competitive swim test—consisting of a 100-yard freestyle swim within a strict time standard tailored to their age group—to secure enrollment.

Whether navigating the waves for the first time or returning as seasoned participants, this year’s junior lifeguards walk away with invaluable aquatic safety skills, bringing them one step closer to potentially becoming professional ocean lifeguards.

The LACoFD proudly congratulates this year’s exceptional cadre of junior lifeguards on their hard work, commitment, and achievements this summer!
