The County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR), known internationally as USA-2, returned home the evening of Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Following a 10-day deployment to Jamaica, USA-2 members reunited with family, friends and fellow personnel during a heartwarming homecoming at the LACoFD Technical Operations Section in Pacoima.

On October 30, 2025, USA-2 joined its counterpart, USA-1, based out of Fairfax County, Virginia, as part of the U.S. Department of State’s rapid assessment team to Jamaica provide search, rescue, and recovery assistance to residents and communities impacted by the catastrophic Category 5 storm.

USA-1 and USA-2 were essential and instrumental partners in delivering lifesaving aid to the hardest-hit communities. Throughout their activation, members performed wide-area assessments, evaluated countless buildings for safety, cleared roads of debris to reconnect isolated communities, delivered food and water by air and ground to residents, installed temporary roofing at health clinics, and more.

The LACoFD remains inspired by the compassion and resiliency of the Jamaican people. We stand alongside all impacted residents and communities and pray for strength as healing and recovery continues.

The LACoFD thanks the Trump Administration and the U.S. Department of State for the rapid response to this natural disaster. We commend the USA-1 and USA-2 for their dedication to ensuring the protection and safety of the people of Jamaica.
