The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division hosted its third annual
Women’s Lifeguard Preparation Academy (WLPA) on the weekend of May 18 and 19, 2024, at the Venice Beach Lifeguard Operations headquarters.

Led by LACoFD lifeguard team members, in collaboration with the Women’s Fire League, the WLPA provides hands-on training and life-saving skills and prepares participants for a career as an ocean lifeguard.

This two-day event, open to everyone 16 years and older, offered participants an opportunity to learn enhanced ocean swimming techniques, perform rigorous physical-fitness exercises, and meet officials who expressed words of encouragement and support for their career pathways.

Throughout the weekend, County of Los Angeles Third District Supervisor and Chair Lindsay Horvath, Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, and 11th District Los Angeles City Councilmember Traci Park, attended the Academy.

To culminate the annual WLPA, LACoFD Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone imparted words of encouragement to the candidates as they received an official LACoFD certificate of completion.

Congratulations and best wishes to everyone who completed the 2024 WLPA!
