The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) hosted its first two-day Women’s Lifeguard Prep Academy (WLPA) on the weekend of June 11 and 12, 2022, at the Dockweiler Youth Center in Playa Del Rey.

Acting Chief Deputy Anthony C. Marrone and Los Angeles County Supervisors Holly J. Mitchell (Second District) and Kathryn Barger (Fifth District) joined Department personnel at the weekend academy to offer words of encouragement and cheer on participants.

Open to anyone 18 years and older, participants had the opportunity to train with LACoFD lifeguards and learn what it takes to become an ocean lifeguard.  Most importantly, they learned life-saving skills, ocean swimming techniques, and engaged in vigorous physical fitness exercises.
