On Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division was joined by the Women’s Fire League and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion hosted the fifth annual Women’s Lifeguard Prep Academy (WLPA) in Playa del Rey.

The Women’s Lifeguard Prep Academy is designed to introduce participants to the ocean lifeguard profession. Participants of the WLPA had the opportunity to train with LACoFD lifeguards and learn what it takes to become an ocean lifeguard. For two days, participants learned life-saving skills, enhanced ocean swimming techniques, and participated in vigorous physical fitness training. Additionally, participants were also able to engage with lifeguards and ask questions about their career and what the process is to become a lifeguard.
