On Thursday, May 25, 2023, a $25,000 “Homes for Heroes” grant from Keller Williams Realty was presented to the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN), a resource available to County of Los Angeles Fire Department personnel who have been diagnosed with cancer.

The check presentation took place at Fire Station 28 in the City of Whittier.

The grant was applied for by Fire Fighter Paramedic Leyth Dauod.

Founded in 2005 by retired Fire Fighter Paramedic Mike Dubron, the nonprofit FCSN is among the many programs and services available to assist Department personnel during their time of need.

The FCSN aims to raise awareness of cancer among firefighters and provide prevention training nationwide.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cancer is among the leading causes of death among firefighters.

Studies also suggest firefighters have an elevated risk of developing cancer due to the types and lengths of exposure to chemicals and other job-related conditions.
