The County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors proclaimed the month of April as Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month!

In honor of this important month, and in partnership with the San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) is hosting the third annual Sirens of Silence Event, A Special Day with First Responders, on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

The LACoFD’s award-winning Sirens of Silence program promotes autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and special needs acceptance, education, and inclusion through training and extensive resources available (for free) on the Department’s website.

Individuals with ASD and other special needs are invited to attend this event to meet local first responders, health-care agencies, and community partners to become familiar with emergency apparatus in a sensory-sensitive environment.

This is a great opportunity for families to educate first responders on how best serve their loved ones as well as for first responders to educate families with basic life-saving skills.

The San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center serves more than 15,000 children in the area alone.

We anticipate hundreds of families to attend this extraordinary event!
