The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) is honored to welcome Dr. Ella Cappello to her new role in the EMS Disaster Medicine Fellowship, in partnership with the LACoFD, the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency, and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Under the direction of Dr. Shira Schlesinger, the EMS & Disaster Medicine Fellowship prepares physicians pursuing a career in EMS and Disaster Medicines by offering unique hands-on experience with one of the busiest and most complex EMS systems in the country.
Dr. Cappello recently completed an Emergency Medicine Residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Prior to fellowship, she developed a strong interest in prehospital medicine, disaster medicine, and EMS education.
During residency, Dr. Cappello served as a Base Hospital Physician at San Francisco General Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center, providing online medical control and consultation for EMS personnel. She has been active in EMS scholarship and education, publishing an article in the Journal of Emergency Medical Services on the prehospital use of point-of-care ultrasound during cardiac arrest and giving lectures on the recognition and management of chemical warfare agents.
Dr. Cappello is “excited for the opportunity to learn from your knowledge, experience, and dedication to serving the community.”
The LACoFD is appreciative of the continued partnership with the Los Angeles County EMS Agency and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and looks forward to seeing the beneficial work that continues to emerge from this fellowship.
The Department extends congratulations to Dr. Cappello on her achievements and wishes her the best as she embarks on this exciting new journey.
