Summer is here, and the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) reminds everyone that children can drown silently. Constant supervision is critical near any body of water. To prevent accidents, the LACoFD Water Watcher Program encourages you to designate an adult to focus solely on swimmer safety.

A designated Water Watcher must:

· Maintain constant supervision: Keep eyes on children in or near water at all times.

· Avoid distractions: Put away phones, books, and other activities.

· Keep emergency tools close: Have a phone nearby to call 9-1-1.

· Rescue safely: Reach or throw a rescue object; do not jump in if it is unsafe.

· Act fast: Call 9-1-1 and begin CPR immediately if a swimmer stops breathing. Help us keep our community safe this season. Click here to learn more about the LACoFD Water Watcher Program and do your part.
