In a continued effort to promote workforce inclusivity, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) proudly partnered with the Los Angeles County Library to showcase the Department’s open competitive, non-sworn positions through an educational series, “Work Ready Career Session.”

This live, cross-departmental collaboration, Civilian Careers in the Fire Department, was held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Coordinated in partnership with the Library’s Community Engagement Coordinator, Oleg Kagan, viewers gained knowledge about the essential roles non-sworn personnel play in supporting the Department’s mission.
Hector Gallo, Fire Equipment Mechanic, and Brian Boethling, Medium Truck Driver, were featured in the live interview to share firsthand perspectives on their roles, career journeys, and the meaningful work they accomplish daily.

The session drew public interest and sparked curiosity about the wide range of non-sworn career opportunities available at the LACoFD by providing a deeper understanding of the professional pathways and day-to-day responsibilities that contribute to the safety and exemplary service the Department is known for.
The ODEI team will participate in future video sessions to increase public awareness and education about the rewarding professional staff opportunities within the LACoFD, which reflect a wide spectrum of backgrounds, experiences, and talents.
