On the evening of Wednesday, October 26, 2022, the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) co-hosted a day-into-night demonstration of the Quick Reaction Force program’s fire-suppression, retardant-dropping helitanker at the Department’s Helispot 69 Bravo in Topanga.

Los Angeles County Interim Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone was joined by representatives from the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) and Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) to show media outlets the elite capabilities of the CH-47 Chinook aircraft.

For LACoFD, our CH-47 Chinook enhances the Department’s current air operations fleet which includes five Sikorsky S-70 Firehawks, five Bell 412 helicopters, and the seasonal exclusive contract with the Government of Quebec for the use of two SuperScoopers.

This partnership between the LACoFD, OCFA, VCFD, and Coulson Aviation provides a 165-day contract with Coulson to lease the Chinooks through generous funding from Southern California Edison.
