On the evening of Friday, November 21, 2025, the ONE Henry Hudson, a container cargo ship moored in the Port of Los Angeles, erupted in flames.  A coordinated effort involving close to 200 personnel was established to conduct fire suppression efforts, hazard mitigation, port traffic control, and infrastructure safety.

Unified command consisted of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the United States Coast Guard, and the Long Beach Fire Department.  LAFD requested the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) module team to support incident operations.

The LACoFD UAS module team provided critical command-post support through drone-based situational awareness, including live aerial views, thermal imaging for heat-signature identification, and visual confirmation of container markings to identify the products involved.  Materials identified included lithium-ion batteries and other hazardous materials.

While approximately 100 cargo containers sustained significant damage, luckily there were not any reported injuries by those onboard or those responding to the incident.

The LACoFD remains ready to support our partners and the communities we serve.
