Los Angeles County Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums Spotlight

Los Angeles County Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums Spotlight

Los Angeles County Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums Spotlight 1024 682 Isidro Armenta

In this edition of Size-Up, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) spotlights the Los Angeles County Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums for their commitment to keeping tradition, history, and honor alive.

First founded by then band President and Fire Captain Billy Monahan in 2011, the Pipes and Drums is a ceremonial band whose members are current and retired LACoFD personnel.  The band members play traditional highland bagpipes, snare, and bass drums.

They are most known for being called upon to be part of the formal ceremonies for fallen first responders.  But by no means are the Pipes and Drums limited to those functions.  They have also welcomed the newest LACoFD probationary firefighters at graduation ceremonies.  You might also see them at community events honoring first responders and members of the military.

At every ceremony, the Los Angeles County Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums are honored to have the opportunity to be part of centuries-long traditions that acknowledge, respect, and revere members of the fire service, past, present, and future.
