On Saturday, October 15, 2022, staff from the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) Health Hazardous Materials Division (HHMD) joined members of the Lifeguard Division at the 17th annual Taste of Soul Family Festival in South Los Angeles.

The in-person street festival drew in a large crowd after the event’s two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

HHMD staff provided valuable information to the attendees regarding haz-mat incidents, including how to report spills and abandoned containers and how to properly handle and dispose of household hazardous substances.

Lifeguard Division staff provided important safety tips regarding swimming in the ocean, information on youth programs, and how to join the LACoFD family and become an ocean lifeguard.

Battalion Chief Sara Rathbun and Fire Fighter Specialist Craig Little also joined the event and provided additional support.

Informational pamphlets and giveaways were provided to the community, along with lots of smiles!
