On Wednesday, October 22, 2024, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) collaborated with the County of Los Angeles First Supervisorial District to host an informative and interactive Emergency Preparedness workshop for senior community members, conducted entirely in Spanish.
Held at the East Los Angeles Civic Center in unincorporated East Los Angeles, this well-attended workshop hosted 82 actively engaged and eager to learn senior community members. Organized by LACoFD Community Service Liaisons (CSLs) Rosemary Vivero and Gina Chan, the primary goal was to equip attendees with essential safety tips, educational materials, and strategies to empower them in the event of an emergency.
This workshop was made possible through partnerships with various key organizations, including the American Red Cross, and Los Angeles County Departments of Aging and Disabilities, Public Health, Public Social Services, and Consumer and Business Affairs.
In addition to the Emergency Preparedness Workshop in East Los Angeles, CSLs Vivero and Chan hosted emergency preparedness workshops for 50 senior community members at St. Margaret Mary Church in the City of Lomita, and 51 block club captains and seniors community members in the City of Carson earlier this year.
The LACoFD extends its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to CSLs Vivero and Chan for their dedication and commitment to expanding public education and community risk reduction efforts to bolster resilience for older adults, residents, and community stakeholders across Los Angeles County.
