The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD), in partnership with California Water Service (Cal Water) and the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, commissioned a new HeloPod firefighting dip source and cistern on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

The new HeloPod is available just in time for the wildfire-prone summer and fall months.

A HeloPod allows a firefighting helicopter to automatically fill up four times faster while hovering than by replenishing its tank by landing.

When every second counts, this time-saving measure can help save and protect lives and homes.

Funded through a Cal Water grant for $38,000, the 7,000-gallon capacity HeloPod is installed and housed at the City of Rancho Palos Verdes’s Civic Center and will benefit and protect communities throughout Southern California.
