On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) held a Flag Ceremony at Fire Station 32 in the City of Azusa, and a Memorial Service on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Whittier Area Community Church to honor the life and memory of Fire Fighter Paramedic (FFPM) Jerry W. Guzman, who passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2025.
FFPM began his career with the LACoFD after successfully graduating from Recruit Academy 111 in 2002. His first assignment was with Fire Station 35 in the City of Cerritos. Over the course of 23 years, FFPM Guzman devoted his life to fulfilling the Department’s mission of protecting lives, the environment and property. He was 58 years old at the time of his passing, with his final assignment at Fire Station 32.
As part of the Memorial Service, family and colleagues shared beautiful memories and stories of FFPM Guzman, including his infectious smile and laugh, love of family, and many hobbies including coaching his son’s sports teams, Tae Kwon Do, skiing, camping, and fishing.
On behalf of LACoFD Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone, the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1014, Chief Deputy Jon O’Brien shared condolences with FFPM Guzman’s loved ones.
“The unexpected loss of Jerry has been very difficult and heartbreaking for the Guzman family, and our Fire Department family,” said Chief O’Brien. “As we navigate this journey of grief, we find strength in cherishing the countless memories of Jerry, reflecting on the many lives he touched and the meaningful contributions he made, which we honor and remember here today.”
FFPM Guzman is survived by his son, Justin; his mother, Eileen; his brother, Dominic; his girlfriend, Sandy; and Sandy’s children (for whom FFPM Guzman was a father to), Devon, Danielle, and Christian.
The LACoFD extends its heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family, friends, and colleagues of FFPM Guzman. His memory and legacy will never be forgotten.
