In observance of National Suicide Awareness Month this September, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) is partnering with Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014, the Los Angeles County Lifeguard Association, and our Wellness Section to prioritize behavioral health and suicide prevention.

Guided by the California Fire Service Behavioral Health Task Force, all personnel will participate in this year’s Suicide Prevention and Awareness Safety Stand Down and are encouraged to explore the training content updated weekly on the Healing Our Own website.

The everyday demands on first responders are uniquely challenging and safeguarding the physical and mental health of our workforce and their families is our highest priority. We urge all members to stand together, foster a culture of mutual support, and remember that seeking help is a clear sign of resilience.

Confidential help is always within reach. You can access immediate, 24/7 assistance through the national 9-8-8 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or connect directly with our local LACoFD Peer Support Team, clinicians, and chaplains who are available around the clock.
