Recruit Academy 173 Graduation Ceremony!

On Friday, September 13, 2024, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) held a formal graduation to celebrate Recruit Academy 173 at the Cecil R. Gehr Memorial Combat Training Center in the unincorporated community of East Los Angeles.

Family and friends joined to the Executive Team and the Recruit Training Cadre as the 36 recruits proudly received their LACoFD firefighter badges and proudly recited the Firefighter’s Oath to faithfully serve Los Angeles County residents.

Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone congratulated and recognized Recruit Academy 173 for their dedication and successful completion of the 87-day academy. As part of his remarks, Chief Marrone shared, “This career is not for the faint of heart. It takes commitment and courage to devote yourself – and take an oath to serve with duty and honor because on every call, you may face danger and the unexpected.”

As part of Recruit Class 173, there were 31 LACoFD fire suppression aids graduates, and Matthew Godde was this academy’s Valedictorian. Graduates began their first assignments as probationary firefighters on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
