The Malibu Project recognized County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) first responders from Division 7 and Camp 8 for their firefighting response to the January 2025 Palisades wildfire along with Community Brigade volunteers on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
The presentation marked an important milestone for businesses in the region that are increasing their capacity to welcome more visitors as Malibu, and Pacific Palisades continue the recovery process.
City of Malibu Mayor Marianne Riggins stressed the community’s pride and appreciation for the first responders that came from near and far to assist in the grueling firefight and incident response. Deputy Fire Chief Robert Harris and Assistant Fire Chief Drew Smith shared remarks about the unprecedented nature of the wildfire and accepted the recognition on behalf of all LACoFD personnel. Brent Woodworth and David Hertz accepted the recognition on behalf of their fellow volunteers with the Community Brigade.
The event, hosted by Kristy’s Village Café in Malibu, offered all attendees a delicious meal for all to enjoy. To share in the festivities, Christopher Kelly, owner of Topanga Creek Outpost, donated leather belts to first responders as a token of his appreciation.
The LACoFD applauds and is grateful for the efforts of all first responders during the January 2025 conflagration.
