USA-02 Technical Support Team Activated and Deployed to Colombia

USA-02 Technical Support Team Activated and Deployed to Colombia 1024 768 Isidro Armenta

At 7:34 a.m. local time on Monday, August 10, 2026, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake occurred and was felt across the western and central regions of the country of Colombia in South America. The strong earthquake caused significant damage and injuries.

Within hours of the shaking, members of the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) urban search and rescue team began preliminary preparation in anticipation of requests for assistance.

The United States Department of State activated a technical support team from the Department’s United States of America 2 (USA-02), Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team consisting of seven Fire Department members and three Los Angeles County Department of Public Works structural specialists. The USA-02 technical support team deployed to Colombia on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

We applaud our USA-02 team and all first responders on the ground providing caring and dedicated service. Our thoughts remain with the Colombian people and all those impacted by this earthquake.
