2024 Women’s Fire Prep Academy Concludes 1024 682 LACoFD Communications Section

Over the course of six Sundays, over 60 participants successfully completed the County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) eighth annual Women’s Fire Prep Academy (WFPA) on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Through the WFPA, the participants walked away with a better sense of the fundamental responsibilities of what it means to be a firefighter and what it takes to join this noble profession. Together, participants learned how to properly workout for physical fitness and participate in hands-on skills with tools and equipment, including how to work with extension ladders, rotary saws, and pulling and laying down hose.

LACoFD Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone attended the WFPA culmination with wise words of encouragement as he addressed the participants. The WFPA initially began with over 80 perspective candidates who successfully passed the one-day assessment which consisted of a beep test (shuttle run), planks, push- and pull-ups, and series of firefighter drills.

This innovative program concluded with each WFPA participant receiving a certificate of completion from Battalion Chief Sara Rathbun.

Congratulations and best wishes to everyone who completed the 2024 WFPA!
