On Thursday, October 31, 2024, County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) firefighters were honored by State of California Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez for their remarkable efforts in saving the Historical Society of Pomona Valley from a fire that occurred on Saturday, September 28,2024, notably known as the Holt incident.

This well-attended event drew in dignitaries including the Office of Supervisor Hilda Solis, Senator Susan Rubio, Pomona City Manager Dr. Anita Gutierrez, Historical Society of Pomona Valley President Deborah Clifford, and other esteemed guests.

Various LACoFD resources including Engines 61, 101, 121, 182, 184, 186, 286, along with Quints 64 and 185, Paramedic Squads 182 and 183, Arson Investigators 4, 8, and 11, and battalion chiefs from Battalions 2 and 15 received certificates of appreciation for their exceptional teamwork and swiftly extinguishing the fire and containing it to the front-entry portion of the building.

Fire Captain Steven Smith and the brave firefighters from Fire Station 183 received special recognition for their rapid response time of arriving within 90 seconds of the 9-1-1 call being dispatched, saving numerous important items, and having no reported injuries during the incident.

During the event program, LACoFD Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said, “Every day, our firefighters come to work with one goal in mind: to help the residents of the community we serve,” and further added, “We are all dedicated to taking care of each city we serve – and giving back to the City of Pomona is our priority.”

The LACoFD expresses its gratitude to all the firefighters recognized for their dedication in providing fire protection and life safety services to the residents of Pomona and across Los Angeles County.
